Sutha, Flower Garland Sales

I married Murugasan in 2006. He has a bullock cart and carries sand for construction work. My husband is addicted to alcohol and pays little attention to our family of two boys, who go to middle school. Our poverty increased gradually so that at one point we were starving. In order to survive, I began to pledge the gold jewels my parents gave as dowry.

I became determined to have a business, heard about SHWET, and became a member. I was granted a loan from Prosperity Rings for Rs 20,000 and initiated a flower sales business by purchasing bulk from the wholesale market at 4:30AM. I arrive home at 6:30AM and start making “mala” (flowers strung together in garlands), which I sell from home, and from street to street.

My life has changed because of the opportunity given to me. I hope my husband will come back.
