Funding Contingent on Training
On the Prosperity Rings visit to Tamil Nadu, February 2014, we brought together Partners SHWET and SRIA with four sources of training. We agreed that a requirement for receiving a Grant would be the establishment of training programs to provide new skills and trade options, with the resulting borrowers’ commitment to practice more sustainable trades with their loans. In March, SRIA was granted $15,500, and they have reported on the type of training given and the borrowers who established an enterprise from each.
We are collaborating with the Thunderbird School of Global Management and Tufts Fletcher School on a proposal for an intern to spend one or two months in Tamil Nadu, to recruit trainers in a variety of trades and organize sessions for our borrowers to participate in that training. The trainers will need to follow through to enable the borrowers to acquire and set up the necessary equipment for the new enterprise. Partners SHWET and SRIA will host the intern, link her/him with borrowers, and provide guidance so that trainings will be relevant. Prosperity Rings will also be in India to initiate the internship.
